OPPORTUNITIES FOR ADVOCACY: Contact your representatives!
‘Tis the season for making a big difference in Annapolis! There’s a ton of guidance about which climate-saving bills to talk about with your representatives in the MD General Assembly. Organizations that share our UU Green values, UU Legislative Ministry, Interfaith Power & Light (coordinating with AIM and CASA), and the Sierra Club, have put out their lists of priority bills below. Your emails, texts, Tweets and calls make a big difference, especially if you can tell a personal story, and best of all is a face-to-face meeting. Consider joining AIM at their in-person Feb. 21 Lobby Day, or click the links to learn more and take action! Who are your reps? Look them up here!
UULM Priority Bills:
HB 864 – EmPOWER Energy Efficiency update
HB 516 – Climate Crisis and Environmental Justice Act
HB 24/SB 96 – Climate and Environmental Equity Act
IPL Priority Bills:
HB 864 EmPOWER Maryland Energy Efficiency Act update
HB0024/SB0096 Impact of Environmental Permits and State Agency Actions
(no bill number yet) The Whole Watershed Protection Act
Sierra Club Priority Bills:
HB 864 EmPOWER Energy Efficiency Act update
HB 735/SB 642 Beverage Container Deposit/Refund Litter Reduction
HB 836 /SB 681 Transportation and Climate Alignment Act
(Do you notice a pattern? If you only have time to advocate for ONE BILL, it’s the 864 EmPOWER 2024 update to the highly successful but outdated 2008 EmPOWER legislation. It supports a just transition away from fossil fuels and supports the direction of funding to more low-income rental residents through their landlords.)
