Interfaith Works (formerly Community Ministry of Montgomery County)
RRUUC is a committed member of Interfaith Works, a non-sectarian interfaith coalition of more than 140 congregations representing Christian, Jewish, Muslim, Buddhist, and other faiths who work together to meet the needs of the poor in Montgomery County, Maryland.
Representatives of RRUUC participate in Interfaith Works’ extensive program of advocacy for the needy, as well as direct support programs such as Sophia House and Community-Based Shelter, Congregational and Community Emergency Support Program, Friends in Action (FIA), Interfaith Clothing Centers (IACC), Thanksgiving Hunger Drive and Thanksgiving in February. The meals provided to the Community-Based Shelter in Rockville are 100% provided by volunteer cooks and servers, and RRUUC, like other congregations, commits to provide these meals during a week in the spring. The Social Justice Council also supports Interfaith Works through an annual allocation from the General Outreach funds donated by congregation members. Interfaith Works is a critical voice on behalf of all disadvantaged segments of the county and magnifies the realization of RRUUC's commitment to social justice.
