We hope you find what you need to know about River Road Unitarian Universalist Congregation's (RRUUC) religious education ministry. On these pages are opportunities for religious and personal growth, acting in the world, and developing deep fellowship with people of all ages. Gabrielle Farrell, Lifespan Religious Educator or Beth Irikura, Religious Educator for Youth would love to meet you and answer any questions you may have. Looking forward to getting to know you.

Our Religious Education Ministry for All Ages

In our child dedication service, we make this promise to each other, "as the community that welcomes them, it is our particular task to help them learn that the power of love is stronger than all hatred and sorrow. Let us teach them to know the sanctity of life, the holiness of integrity, the virtue of kindness, and the challenge of the individual faith to which they will be called." This is not a task of the adults alone but for all. These teachings are not something simply to be received, but also to be given. What we promise to do for children we promise people of all ages.

The Content of our Religious Education

Our learning ministry invites reflection on your individual beliefs in relationship to the world. Unitarian Universalism aims to “draw from within rather than fill one up.” Each individual is encouraged to re-engage and explore values and ideas in "re-imagining" the world.

Learning reflective, expository and experiential opportunities engaging sacred and secular text, using hands for social justice and service, celebrating the seasonal journey, marking life transitions, and entering moments of worshipful silence to access what we "know but cannot say." We use all our faculties and intelligences -- reflection, engagement, investigation, artistic expression, body movement and more -- all to help each person find a place to belong. Click here to read more about our learning opportunities for children and youth or here for our Adult or Multigenerational offerings. The Bookstore not only supports RRUUC learning opportunities but offers an individual opportunity to read about a wide variety of spiritual and philosophical ideas.

"Sunday School" and Beyond

"Sunday School" has long been what we have called our Sunday group gatherings for children, youth and adults. Click to see what might work for your family. In addition, our small group foundational “learning” happens other days of the week offering opportunities to make meaning and to practice acting with courage and conviction in the world. Please check out the RRUUC calendar, the eWeekly, worship service announcements and the RE Family News to join in ongoing celebrations, social justice projects and community-building experiences. Please register your children of any age here so we can be ready! Registration for adult offerings is available by class or group offering.

Multigenerational Congregational Life

Congregational life is one of the few remaining places where people of all ages gather -- to learn, worship, act for justice, celebrate and teach. At River Road this happens with adults and children together or children and youth gathering by age. We value this unique opportunity while also being mindful of difference and group needs.
