Our River Road Unitarian Universalist Congregation “Serving Together” projects are in full swing. The goal of Serving Together is to create monthly multigenerational service projects where we enjoy fellowship together and serve the community at the same time. We work together in community to take our values out to those around us.

May- Little Free Library

A small group will first build our very first Little Free Library box with a matching one to hold food for those in need. Never heard of a Little Free Library? Check out their website.  Once the boxes are installed on the RRUUC property, we will be asking for donations for books and goods to share.

Construction will take place Saturday, April 28 at 9 am.  Finishing will start at 11 a.m.  Please register by April 26.  All materials and guidance provided.

March 11 – Rise Against Hunger

We our kicked off our Serving Together project by working with Rise Against Hunger.

175 volunteers!  20,888 meals!  In 3 Hours We Did It!

We put our values and muscles into action Sunday, March 11.  Over 175 volunteers carried large bags of rice and soy, sorted, weighed, measured, filled, sealed and packed 20,888 meals Rise Against Hunger.   From 12:30 to 3:30pm, our Sanctuary was filled with laughter, singing, kids ringing gongs, and, rumor has it, even some dancing. Newcomers, long time members, kids, teens and a smorgasbord of adults of all ages worked together to make a huge difference in the world by preparing meals to feed those in need.  A shout out to all volunteers and RRUUC staff, and to our Youth for providing lunch.  This was truly something special – a time of generosity, fun and service. We did it together!

April 15, 2018 –  Collaborative Painting Project

On Sunday, April 15 we created a piece of art together. All ages quietly added their own paint brush strokes or swirls or splashes to the canvass. Virginian artist and teacher Shari MacFarlane guided us.

Our creation will first hang in our Sanctuary and then be donated to a local organization in the community as our gift to them.

Watch for these upcoming Serving Together Opportunities:

June –
While we’re wide open for suggestions, we hope to hold a food drive to help a local school feed kids during the summer who normally rely on free and reduced lunches. Summer vacation can be hunger days for so many kids.

July – Wide open for suggestions!

August – We will be partnering with the RRUUC Animal Ministry to provide the Montgomery Animal Shelter with much needed food and materials to support their good work in the community.
