A Means Of Securing River Road’s Future
The purpose of the Endowment Fund is to help secure, strengthen and extend the long-term mission and survival of River Road Unitarian Universalist Congregation. The fund is built through contributions from members and friends, through their wills or gifts made during life. Income from the Endowment Fund can be used to fund special projects and programs that promote liberal religion in RRUUC or our community in special ways. Spending the principal is prohibited except as specifically provided by the terms of a gift or in circumstances of extreme financial crisis (as determined by unanimous vote of the Board and confirmed by a vote of not less than two thirds of the members of the congregation present at a special meeting). The Endowment Committee provides assistance to members and friends who wish to provide long-term support to RRUUC. The Committee also manages and administers the assets of the Fund under general guidelines established by the Board.
Ways To Give
Make a Direct Gift to the Endowment Fund.
Donors may easily contribute to the Fund through an outright gift of cash, stocks, bonds or other securities, real estate or personal property — and receive an immediate charitable tax deduction.
Make a Gift and Receive a Lifetime Income.
Establishing a Charitable Gift Annuity or contributing to a Pooled Income Fund (both of which are available through RRUUC in partnership with the Unitarian Universalist Association), or designating RRUUC as a beneficiary of a Charitable Remainder Trust, are good ways to reduce income, capital gains taxes, or estate taxes while retaining the right to receive income from the gift for as long as you live. A member of the Endowment Committee can help explain the special benefits these gifts provide.
Designate the Fund as a Primary or Contingent Beneficiary.
You can do this with life insurance policies, retirement plans, bank accounts and other financial vehicles.
Make a Bequest in Your Will or Living Trust.
Remembering RRUUC in your estate plans can be an effective way of supporting a community institution and values that have been meaningful to you during your lifetime. The Endowment Committee can provide information on different types of bequests.
Join the RRUUC Legacy Society
By confirming to the Endowment Committee that you have designated RRUUC as a beneficiary in your estate plan, you can be enrolled in the Legacy Society of RRUUC. Members and friends who make outright gifts or establish lifetime income gifts of any size may also choose to join. The Endowment Fund helps secure, strengthen and extend the long-term mission of RRUUC.
Take the Next Step
An Endowment Committee member is available to discuss with you in more detail the types of possible gift arrangements. And since some gifts and bequests have complex legal and tax implications, you may also want to consult your attorney or financial planner for details. A gift to the Endowment Fund will keep on giving for generations to come. For the names of the Committee members and more information, call (301) 229-0400 or send an e-mail to office(at)rruuc.org. Designate all gifts for the Endowment Fund to: "The Endowment Fund of River Road Unitarian Universalist Congregation, Bethesda, Maryland, 20817."
Presented below is more detailed information about the Endowment Fund and suggested testamentary language for charitable gifts.
