The River Road Choir makes an important contribution to worship services each week. It also provides a smaller community within the larger congregation where the volunteer members can make friends and deepen their connections to RRUUC. Members of the choir are committed to creating the best musical results and having fun as well.
Recent special performances
In recent years, the choir has performed Igor Stravinsky's Symphony of Psalms, Leonard Bernstein's Chichester Psalms, Carmina Burana by Carl Orff, African Sanctus by David Fanshawe, the Faure Requiem, and numerous premiere performances of compositions by Clif Hardin. To hear excerpts from some of these performances, see Recordings of the River Road Choir.
Members
Our choir's members are people with a range of musical abilities who love singing together. You don't need to be a solo-quality singer to join the choir, but you should have a basic knowledge of reading music, a good sense of pitch, and the ability to blend your voice with other singers.
How to join
If you're interested in joining the River Road Choir, call Director of Music Clif Hardin at 301-229-0400, ext. 112, or email him at CHardin(at)rruuc.org. Clif will arrange a time to meet with you for a short, informal audition. The purpose of the audition is to gauge your ability to sing in tune and blend with a group; you do not need to bring a prepared song.
Chamber choirs
The full River Road Choir usually sings at one of the two Sunday morning services and occasionally sings for both services. Choir members who are willing to contribute a bit more of their time can be in one of two chamber choirs. On Sundays when the full choir sings only one service, these smaller groups sing the same music for the other service.
Choir Schedule
The choir rehearses every Thursday evening from 8 to 10 in the sanctuary. On Sundays, the choir gathers 45 minutes before service time, to rehearse. The choir sings about three times a month from mid-September through early June. For information on current rehearsals and performances, see the Schedule page.
