Memorial Garden

Remembering your loved one...

The Memorial Garden is a place for reflection and remembrance for members and friends of the Congregation. The Garden provides a peaceful atmosphere with benches where visitors can sit and look out on an intimate, landscaped area backed by beautiful, natural woodlands. Mounted stone memorial tablets, placed along the path to the garden hold cast bronze remembrance nameplates honoring deceased members and friends of the Congregation.

Acknowledging life's transitions...

The first principle of Unitarian Universalists is the "inherent worth and dignity of every person." The seventh principle is "respect for the interdependent web of all existence of which we are a part." The opportunity to remember a loved one in this natural and simply landscaped setting is a way in which we can act on these two principles and acknowledge life's transitions.

Commemorating the life of your loved one...

All past and present members and friends of River Road and their immediate families are eligible to be commemorated within the Memorial Garden. The fee for a cast bronze nameplate, 6”x1-1/2”, including the full name of the deceased and years of birth and death is $500.  $350 of the fee is tax deductible.

Ashes may be scattered in the protected wooded acreage owned by the congregation. Arrangements for the scattering of ashes must be made by calling the RRUUC office, 301-229-0400.

Purchasing a Nameplate…

You can order a nameplate either online or by mail. Please fill out the form and pay either by using e-Pay or by writing a check made out to RRUUC and put "Memorial Garden" in the description blank on the check. You can mail or bring your check to RRUUC, 6301 River Road, Bethesda, MD, 20817.

To use e-Pay, once you are logged into e-Pay, you will be asked the amount of the “gift” and whether it is one-time or recurring.  Check “one time” and put in $500 as the gift amount. You will then be asked to pick the fund to which you would like to give. The Memorial Garden is the last item on the fund list. Check the Memorial Fund box and note in the description blank “Nameplate.” Then proceed as directed.

If you have any questions, please contact Ana Lim, Congregational Administrator, alim@rruuc.org, or call 301-229-0400, ext. 101.
