Sixth, Seventh & Eighth Grades – 9:15a: Heeding the Call: Qualities of a Justice Maker
Heeding the Call is a social justice curriculum that not only explores linked oppressions in our society, but also encourages participants towards personal growth in values that counteract the marginalization of others. Workshops on empathy, courage, abundance, joy, and other qualities ask participants to recognize how these standards can be tools for justice. Service and social justice work and learning will be included throughout the year on Sunday mornings.
Eighth Grade - 9:15a: OWL (Our Whole Lives)
Helps 8th grade participants make informed and responsible decisions about their sexual health and behavior. It equips participants with accurate, age-appropriate information in: sexuality, sex, sensuality, anatomy, friendships, dating, communication, health care and more.
Grounded in a holistic view of sexuality, Our Whole Lives not only provides facts about anatomy and human development, but also helps participants clarify their values, build interpersonal skills, and understand the spiritual, emotional, and social aspects of sexuality. Note: Permission from parents is required for this class, and parents or guardians must attend a parent/guardian orientation scheduled for September 15 or meet with the instructors. Regular attendance is expected and class structure does not permit visitors. Eighth grade visitors are welcome in the non-OWL Middle School class.
