The wide universe is the ocean I travel, and the earth is my blue boat home
-Peter Mayer
WELCOME!
The doors of River Road Unitarian Universalist Congregation are open to all who would like to share a Sunday morning with us. Our commitment to children, youth, and families is evident in every aspect of the congregation.
Our Responsibility to Children
In our child dedication services, we covenant to provide our children a religious community in which to grow spiritually. We pledge to do all within our power to give our children the love and support they need, to enable them to find meaning, joy and satisfaction in life, and to become people who will enrich the world.
The Content of Our Religious Education
Our Religious Education program:
- acquaints children with Unitarian Universalist history and values
- exposes them to the richness of the world's religious traditions, with a special emphasis on Judaism and Christianity
- offers an opportunity to better understand life issues
- encourages inclusiveness and teaches children to value diversity
Our carefully selected curriculum goes hand in hand with opportunities for worship, community building, social justice, creative arts, musical expression, and play. We recognize that children are spiritual and religious beings, and we support them as they discover this throughout their lives.
March 7 Deadline! Nominate a Volunteer for the Muriel Davies Award
The Religious Education Committee seeks nominations for the 2008 Muriel Davies Award, given for excellence in religious education at RRUUC. Members and friends, children and adults, may nominate an RE volunteer who has contributed time, talents, and enthusiasm in an outstanding manner. Exemplary volunteer efforts might include teaching classes for a number of years, working dynamically with other teachers and staff to improve the RE curriculum, or making a significant difference in the lives of students. The award honors Muriel Davies, RRUUC’s first director of Religious Education. Nomination forms are available outside the RE office.
Worship Opportunities
To enable family participation in worship, school-aged children through the fifth grade attend the first few minutes of Sunday Services with their parents.
Preschool children experience worship in their classrooms, where they light a chalice, sing, and recite words describing River Road Unitarian Universalist Congregation as a community of "open minds, loving hearts, and helping hands."
