I envision the goals of religious education being to create and maintain a human environment and atmosphere where people of all ages can find and create a just community, grow and develop skills and the confidence to live their lives wholly, find and give comfort and solace, and celebrate life.
Ginger Luke, RRUUC Minister of Religious Education and Congregational Life from the essay, The Children's Fire Is the Community Fire, published in the Essex Conversations.
WELCOME!
The doors of River Road Unitarian Universalist Congregation are open to all who would like to share in community with us. Our commitment to children, youth, and families is evident in every aspect of the congregation.
Our Responsibility to Children
In our child dedication services, we covenant to provide our children a religious community in which to grow spiritually. We pledge to do all within our power to give our children the love and support they need, to enable them to find meaning, joy and satisfaction in life, and to become people who will enrich the world.
The Content of Our Religious Education
Our Religious Education program:
- acquaints children with Unitarian Universalist history and values
- exposes them to the richness of the world's religious traditions, with a special emphasis on Judaism and Christianity
- offers an opportunity to better understand life issues
- encourages inclusiveness and teaches children to value diversity
Our carefully selected curriculum goes hand in hand with opportunities for worship, community building, social justice, creative arts, musical expression, and play. We recognize that children are spiritual and religious beings, and we support them as they discover this throughout their lives.
Worship Opportunities
To enable family participation in worship, older preschool children and youth attend the first few minutes of Sunday Services with their parents.
Preschool and Nursery children begin in their classrooms.

ASSISTANT TEACHER WILL LEAD STUDENTS TO CLASS: To help students arrive at the correct classroom safely, particularly during the construction of the new entrance, assistant teachers will be in the Sanctuary at the start of the service and then will stand with a color sign (that identifies them) and guide students to their classroom while the congregation sings the students to class.
CHILDREN RELEASED ONLY TO PARENTS AFTER CLASS: During the construction of the new entrance, to help students leave the classroom safely, we have asked teachers to release children in fifth grade or younger only to their parents.
