ACTION Week 09

Mindful Knitters

This year, we are knitting and crocheting scarves for older children in foster care through Montgomery County Child Welfare Services - middle schoolers to age 21.

Scarf Measurements

  • Child—ages 8-10 5”x36” (40”l. to wrap)
  • Teen & Adult—from 40" (relatively short) to 66" long (relatively long) and 5”-15” wide; currently, skinnier or wider is more trendy. A decorative "scarfette" is around 22" long or can be triangular. Most measurements don’t include fringe.

Other Instructions

  • Consider using machine washable yarn (acrylic, cotton, cotton or wool blends, superwash wool).
  • Please attach washing instructions to all items, especially if not machine washable & dryable.
  • If the dye in an item might bleed, please wash it with white vinegar before placing in bin.
  • While we are focusing on scarves for kids in middle school and up, you may also knit/ crochet other items for them.
  • Please place finished items in one of the wicker bins outside the entrance to the RRUUC sanctuary by Sunday, Mar. 28. And consider joining the Celebration Dinner that evening.
